FII and DII data: how to read the daily numbers, and what 37 sessions of it show

Every evening NSE publishes how much foreign institutional investors (FIIs, also called FPIs) and domestic institutional investors (DIIs: mutual funds, insurers, banks and pension funds) bought and sold in the cash market that day. We record it every session. Here is how to read it, and what 37 sessions of it show. The latest session, updated every evening, is at FII DII data today.

What 37 sessions show (23 July to 11 September 2026)

Thirty-seven sessions is a short window, so read these as a description of these weeks, not a rule.

Why FII selling does not have to mean the market falls

Every share sold is bought by someone. When FIIs sell and DIIs, retail or other investors absorb the shares at steady prices, the net number is large but the index barely moves. What moves price is who is in a hurry: whether buyers lift the offer or sellers hit the bid, which the day's net figure cannot show. That is read from the trades themselves, as in order flow trading.

How to get FII and DII data

NSE publishes the provisional FII/DII trading activity on its website every trading evening, and the final foreign-investor numbers are published later by the depositories. Look for the date, the category, gross buy, gross sell and net in rupees crore, and remember the figures are for the cash market only.

Quick questions

What is FII and DII data?
It is the daily value of shares bought and sold in the Indian cash market by foreign institutional investors (FIIs, or FPIs) and domestic institutional investors (DIIs: mutual funds, insurers, banks and pension funds), published by NSE each evening as provisional figures.
How to get FII and DII data today?
NSE publishes the provisional FII/DII trading activity on its website each trading evening, usually a few hours after the close. It lists gross buy, gross sell and net for each group in rupees crore. tbtflow.com/daily/fii-dii-data-today shows the latest session every evening.
What is the difference between FII and DII?
FIIs are investors based outside India, such as foreign funds; DIIs are Indian institutions such as mutual funds, insurance companies, banks and pension funds. Between 23 July and 11 September 2026 DIIs were net buyers on 34 of 37 sessions while FIIs were split almost evenly.
Does FII selling make the market fall?
Not on its own. Every sale has a buyer. In our 28-session window the sign of FII net matched NIFTY's direction on only 10 days; the day's move depends on who was in a hurry, not on the net figure.
FII DII data kya hota hai?
It shows how many crore rupees of shares foreign investors (FIIs) and Indian institutions (DIIs) bought and sold in the cash market that day. NSE publishes it every evening as provisional figures.
